Shaping jade by hand for three generations
Shaping jade by hand for three generations.
Mountain Jade is home to the largest collection of handcrafted jade art and jewellery in New Zealand.
Each day you can join a free guided tour of our workshop to discover how we carve jade, by hand. You’ll meet the country’s finest greenstone artists and see them at work transforming raw stone into carved art. Take a journey into the rich history of New Zealand pounamu and uncover its traditional uses and values. Explore the cultural influences behind our designs and discover the ancient Māori beliefs that jade lives and breathes. Learn how greenstone is formed deep within the earth and get up close to different types of jade from around the world – discovering the incredible variations in colours, textures and features. Here in New Zealand, pounamu is a national treasure and your knowledgeable guide will explain how the people of the land intend to protect it for future generations to come.
Our range includes traditional and contemporary jade pendants, 18ct gold and sterling silver jewellery, earrings, rings, bracelets, sculptures and art. Each piece in our exclusive collection is one of a kind and lovingly handcrafted from the world’s finest quality jade including NZ pounamu. Our knowledgeable and friendly team can help you to find a personal piece that will forever connect you to New Zealand or a meaningful gift to take home for a loved one.
We are a small, family-run business who have been carving greenstone for three generations. From humble beginnings, we’ve grown to be recognised leaders in the art of carving jade with stores in Rotorua, Hokitika and Auckland Airport. We’re deeply connected to the jade that we use and love spending time in the workshop carving life into stone.
